The Gherkin, London
The Gherkin in London is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world. The building stands 591 feet tall and has 41 floors. The construction of the building lasted three years, starting in 2002. Architecture firm Foster and Partners designed the Gherkin to maximize the use of natural light. The materials used to maximise the light are thick, laminated glass which surrounds the structure’s exterior.
The National Centre For The Performing Arts, China
The National Grand Theater of China is located in Beijing, China and is a multi-functional glass building which was designed by the architect Paul Andreu. The structure stands on a man-made island and acts as an opera house, concert hall and much more. The overall structure is made from glass and titanium.
Philip Johnson’s Glass House, America
This gorgeous house is located in New Canaan, Connecticut and is globally recognised as a stand out design of modern architecture. The home was designed by American architect Philip Johnson and was made to seamlessly blend into the beautiful landscape and become one with nature.
The Botanical Garden of Curitiba, Brazil
The Botanical Garden of Curitiba is a geometrical greenhouse located in Curitiba, Brazil. The architect, Abraao Assad, found inspiration for the Botanical Garden from the Crystal Palace in London. The gardens surrounding the glass structure replicate the French style in its grand splendor.
Guggenheim Museum, Spain
Frank Gehry designed the Guggenheim Museum structure in a way that would catch the light. It was built between October 1993 and October 1997. For the outer skin of the building titanium was used and the other materials used were limestone and glass. All of the materials together achieve an architectural design with a great visual impact that has now become a real icon of the city.
The Glass House, Italy
The Glass House, designed by Carlo Santambrogio, is located in Milano, Italy and is made out of 6-millimeter blue-tinted glass panels. Even the furniture and fixtures are made from glass.
The Louvre, France
The Louvre opened in 1989 and is a stunning four-sided triangular structure sitting in the courtyard of Paris’ famous Louvre art gallery. The Louvre is now one of France’s most popular tourist landmarks. The French president, Francois Mitterrand, commissioned the glass structure for construction in 1984. The structure stands at an impressive 71 feet and covers 11,000 square foot.
Award-winning architect Leoh Ming Pei designed the building with glass panes and metal rods, overall making it a triumph of contemporary architecture.
Aldar Headquarters, Abu Dhabi
The Aldar Headquarters is located near Al Raha beach in Abu Dhabi and forms part of the large investments in the Al Raha area, which recently became a self-contained city. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the building has won multiple awards for its outstanding architecture and futuristic design.

Evolution, Russia
This one-of-a kind skyscraper is the Evolution Tower in Russia. This 55-story office building is 837 feet high and is located in Moscow’s international business centre. The wonderful structure covers a total area of 169,000 square meters.
W Hotel, Barcelona
This beautiful hotel is also known as the Sail Hotel due to its resemblance to a ship’s sail. The Hotel W in Barcelona is one of the most beautiful glass buildings in the world. This stunning structure is 26 stories high and is a 5-star hotel containing 473 rooms and 57 suites. On top of all of that, it is 324 feet high, which is incredible.
Designed by local award-winning architect Ricardo Bofill, it is located on the entrance of the Port of Barcelona and is a popular tourist destination.
